Zoho Corporation is a software company of Indian origin whose offering covers a broad range of businesses’ digital needs: customer relationship management, accounting, human resources, email and IT management. Its roots in Chennai are complemented by an international presence. Available at zoho.com, its product range serves small businesses and larger organizations alike, with one central promise: to reduce tool fragmentation by bringing applications and data together in a coherent environment.

From network tools to business management applications

The company was founded in 1996 under the name AdventNet, with Sridhar Vembu and Tony Thomas among its founders. It initially developed solutions for administering networks and IT infrastructure. During the 2000s, it expanded into online business applications, then adopted the name Zoho Corporation in 2009.

The group stands out for funding itself through its operations, without resorting to venture capital. This independence allows it to emphasize long-term choices in product design and staff training. In India, Zoho has also developed in-house training programs and established offices outside major technology hubs, notably in Tenkasi, Tamil Nadu.

Two pillars: business management and IT

The Zoho brand brings together applications sold separately or in integrated packages. Zoho CRM covers customer relationship management; Zoho Books, accounting; and Zoho People, human resources. Email, collaborative office tools, customer support and data analytics round out this portfolio. Launched in 2017, Zoho One brings numerous services together under a single subscription.

This approach aims to make it easier for information to flow between business functions. Sales data can thus feed into a billing process or a dashboard, depending on the applications and configurations selected. Zoho also offers low-code development tools, including Zoho Creator, to adapt processes to an organization’s specific needs.

The other pillar, ManageEngine, targets IT departments. Its solutions cover areas including IT service management, infrastructure monitoring, endpoint administration and identity management. The group therefore offers two complementary entry points: business use cases and the operation of information systems.

What next?

Zoho continues to integrate artificial intelligence features, particularly around its Zia assistant, to automate certain tasks and make it easier to use data. The challenge will be to translate these features into measurable operational gains while meeting requirements for privacy, security and cost control.

In competition with major international software suites, its trajectory will also depend on the quality of its integrations, deployment support and adaptation to local regulations. Its independent model gives it strategic flexibility; functional depth and ease of use will remain decisive in winning businesses over for the long term.
