NinjaOne, LLC is an American IT management software company headquartered in Austin, Texas. Available at ninjaone.com, its offering is aimed at in-house IT teams and managed service providers, or MSPs. It addresses an operational need: managing distributed fleets of devices, keeping equipment up to date and providing support without routinely visiting users in person.

From NinjaRMM to NinjaOne

Founded in 2013 by Sal Sferlazza and Chris Matarese, the company initially grew under the name NinjaRMM. That name referred to remote monitoring and management, meaning the monitoring and administration of IT systems from a distance. This market is of particular interest to providers that manage the operation of multiple clients’ infrastructure from a single organization.

The rebranding to NinjaOne, announced in 2021, reflects the broadening of this ambition. Beyond technical monitoring, the software company aims to bring several everyday IT support functions together in a shared platform. Its development is part of the growth of software as a service and the spread of work environments across offices, homes and secondary sites.

A console for IT operations

The platform makes it possible to track the status of workstations and servers, gather information about their configuration and trigger alerts when anomalies occur. It supports Windows, macOS and Linux environments, with features that vary by system. The goal is to give technicians a centralized view of the device fleet and the actions required.

Patch management is a key part of the offering. Administrators can organize the deployment of system and third-party software updates, apply policies and check the results. Automation and scripting features also help carry out recurring tasks. Remote access complements these capabilities, enabling technicians to diagnose an incident or assist a user.

NinjaOne also offers backup and recovery features, as well as integrations with other IT and security tools. For MSPs, managing multiple clients is a core use case. For businesses, the main benefit lies in reducing the need to switch between tools. This centralization does not, however, remove the need for a security policy or strict control over administrative privileges.

What next?

NinjaOne’s continued development depends in particular on its ability to support more heterogeneous device fleets and further automate operations without reducing their traceability. The software company operates in a competitive market where remote management specialists, security providers and major software platforms converge. The depth of integrations, deployment reliability and ease of operation will be decisive criteria. For its customers, the challenge will remain a practical one: keeping equipment available and up to date with limited IT resources.
