Intapp, Inc. is an American software company based in Palo Alto, California. It serves businesses whose activities rely on expertise, professional relationships and the handling of sensitive information: law firms, accounting firms, consulting companies, investment banks and private capital investors. Its approach is to offer tools tailored to the requirements of these professions, rather than a general-purpose suite designed for every industry.

From industry-specific software to a publicly traded company

Founded in 2000, Intapp grew around the operational needs of professional services, particularly information systems integration, time tracking and risk management. The company gradually expanded its portfolio through both product development and targeted acquisitions.

The acquisition of DealCloud in 2018 marked an important step in this diversification. This platform enabled it to strengthen its presence among investment firms and deal professionals. In June 2021, Intapp listed on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol INTA. This initial public offering supported its commercial expansion and its transition toward a model increasingly based on cloud subscriptions.

Connecting clients, deals and compliance

DealCloud plays a central role in Intapp’s offering. The platform brings together information on companies, contacts, opportunities and ongoing transactions. For an investment fund or an investment bank, it is used notably to track a portfolio of relationships and coordinate the stages of a transaction. The aim is to make actionable knowledge that is often scattered across email systems, documents and internal databases.

Intapp also offers solutions dedicated to new client and matter intake, conflict-of-interest detection and compliance. These functions address particularly stringent requirements in the legal and financial professions, where a business relationship can pose a regulatory or ethical risk.

Other tools cover time entry, document collaboration and the flow of data between applications. Integrations with the Microsoft environment embed these capabilities into everyday work tools. The business model primarily combines software subscriptions with services related to deployment and customer support.

What’s next?

The next stage for Intapp lies notably in integrating artificial intelligence into business processes. Relationship analysis, information retrieval and the automation of administrative tasks offer tangible opportunities, provided that access rights and the confidentiality of client matters are respected. The quality of available data will be crucial to the relevance of the results.

The company must also continue driving adoption of its cloud offerings within organizations that often use legacy, highly customized systems. Faced with both large general-purpose software vendors and industry specialists, its ability to translate the specific characteristics of each profession into useful features will remain a key differentiator. The challenge will be to simplify work without increasing IT complexity.
