From watchmaking roots to electronics
The company’s history began in 1942 with Daiwa Kogyo, in Suwa. This expertise gradually fueled diversification into electronics.
In 1968, the EP-101 appeared, a compact electronic printer designed notably to output data from calculators. The Epson brand, introduced in 1975, refers to this machine’s descendants. The merger of Suwa Seikosha and Epson Corporation created Seiko Epson Corporation in 1985. Since then, the group has maintained its industrial roots in precision while expanding its markets.
Printing, projecting and automating
Printing is a major focus of its business. Epson markets consumer models, office equipment and machines for professionals in photography, signage, textiles and labels. Its piezoelectric inkjet technology ejects droplets by deforming a material, without heating the ink during the process. This distinguishes it from thermal inkjet and laser printing.
With EcoTank, the group offers printers with refillable tanks rather than conventional cartridges.
