Founded in the United States, MaintainX develops a maintenance and operations management platform for frontline teams. Its software combines equipment tracking, work orders and digital procedures to replace scattered communications and paper documents.

MaintainX serves companies whose activities depend on the proper functioning of physical equipment and facilities. Available on desktop and mobile devices, its platform centralizes maintenance tasks and the information needed to carry them out. It falls into the category of computerized maintenance management systems, or CMMS, while also covering operational tasks such as inspections, checks and the implementation of procedures.

A company born out of frontline needs

Founded in 2018 and based in San Francisco, MaintainX counts its CEO, Chris Turlica, among its cofounders. The company was built around an observation: in factories and technical facilities, some work is still organized through paper forms, spreadsheets and conversations that are difficult to retrieve. This fragmentation makes it harder to pass on instructions and preserve maintenance records.

MaintainX therefore prioritized a mobile approach, designed for technicians who work away from a desk. The aim is to make entering and accessing information simple enough to fit into everyday activities. The company sells its software on a subscription basis, with an offering aimed at both local teams and organizations operating across multiple sites.

Organizing maintenance tasks and documenting equipment

The core of the product is built around work orders: creating a request, assigning it to a technician, adding instructions, tracking progress and closing out the job. Users can attach photos, communicate within the context of a task and record the work performed. This continuity of documentation aims to reduce information loss between production teams, technicians and maintenance managers.

The platform also enables users to schedule preventive maintenance, build a history for each piece of equipment and track spare parts. Digital procedures structure inspections and readings, while dashboards help analyze maintenance activity. Connections with other software and data sources can integrate these functions into the company’s information system.

MaintainX particularly targets manufacturing, food processing and facilities management. In these environments, the value of a CMMS lies as much in machine availability as in the traceability of the work performed. The quality of implementation nevertheless depends on very practical factors: accurately recorded equipment data, appropriate procedures and effective adoption by teams.

What next?

The next step for MaintainX is to make more extensive use of the data collected in the field. Artificial intelligence assistance and connected equipment open up possibilities for finding instructions, preparing a maintenance task or identifying anomalies. These prospects do not automatically make maintenance predictive: they require reliable historical records and a sufficiently documented technical context. In a competitive market, the company will need to combine ease of use, integration with existing tools and the ability to support multisite deployments.
