On May 17 and 18, 2025, web development enthusiasts will have 24 non-stop hours to design a website based on a subject kept secret until the start. This one-of-a-kind hackathon, organized simultaneously in several Indian Ocean islands, returns for a 12th edition focused on creativity and self-improvement. Registration for the Mauritian edition is still open!

A large-scale interregional hackathon

For 24 non-stop hours, teams located in Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mayotte, Rodrigues, and Reunion Island will compete simultaneously on the same topic, revealed on D-Day. Their challenge? To create a complete, original, and functional website in record time to try to qualify for the regional final and proudly represent their territory. Every year, the proposed themes are original, stimulating, and sometimes unusual. For example, some previous topics included creating the official website for a fictional country or promoting an invention from elsewhere. Suffice it to say, you have to be inventive and know how to think “out of the box”!

In 2024, more than 350 participants across the 6 islands competed on the same weekend. A true regional emulation that continues to grow year after year.

These local selections for 24h By Webcup are organized in collaboration with key players in the digital sector: ACTIC in Comoros, AVANA Hub in Madagascar, FINAM in Mauritius, RITA in Rodrigues, as well as the Association Webcup in Reunion Island, the creator of this initiative.

« For over 12 years, FINAM has contributed to making the regional digital scene thrive with 24h By Webcup. I am delighted to announce the launch of this 2025 edition. This iconic competition represents much more than a hackathon: it is an accelerator for talent and collaboration between our islands. I invite all web development enthusiasts to participate in this exceptional initiative and showcase their creativity. » says Jenny Chan, President of FINAM.

A hybrid organization for the 2025 Mauritian edition

In Mauritius, this 12th edition, co-organized by the Federation of Innovative Activities in Mauritius (FINAM), which includes OTAM, MITIA, and CCIFM, and the company ELCA Mauritius, offers a hybrid organization.

Indeed, the 24h By Webcup Mauritius weekend on May 17 and 18 will take place entirely online, allowing participants to compete from anywhere in Mauritius while staying connected with other teams via the dedicated Discord platform. This virtual format offers greater flexibility to participants while maintaining the spirit of competition and collaboration that makes the event a success.

Furthermore, other highlights of the 24h By Webcup, such as the traditional preparatory bootcamp and the awards ceremony on Saturday, June 7, will be held in person at the ELCA Mauritius premises in Moka.

« ELCA Mauritius is proud to co-organize 24h By Webcup 2025, a flagship event for digital innovation in the Indian Ocean. Through this partnership, we reaffirm our commitment to developing local technological skills. This hackathon, organized simultaneously on six islands in the region, is a great opportunity to highlight the creative talents of our territory. To all the teams that will take on this 24-hour non-stop web creation challenge, the staff of ELCA Mauritius and I send you all our encouragement: give it your best and dare to surpass yourselves! » underlines Bruno Lenain, General Manager, ELCA Mauritius.

The competition is open to all web development enthusiasts, regardless of their level of experience or knowledge in the field. The most common profiles are: Developers, Multimedia Designers, Webmasters, Web Designers, Project Managers, Content Creators, Community Managers, IT students, and those in communication or digital marketing.
