Infosys Limited is an Indian IT services and consulting group headquartered in Bengaluru, also known as Bangalore. Operating in the software sector, it primarily serves large organizations, developing applications, transforming their infrastructure and keeping their digital tools running. Its model combines close client relationships with delivery capabilities spread across several countries.

From Indian origins to an international presence

Infosys was founded in 1981 in Pune by seven engineers, including N. R. Narayana Murthy. The company later moved its headquarters to Bangalore and contributed to the rise of the Indian IT industry. Its growth was driven in particular by providing software services to overseas clients, with an organizational structure that allowed projects to be shared between local teams and remote development centers.

Over the decades, Infosys expanded into consulting and information systems transformation. Its Nasdaq listing in 1999 marked a milestone in its international visibility. The group also developed its commercial and operational presence in North America and Europe, two important markets for Indian digital services.

From software development to AI platforms

Infosys’s core business remains the design, integration and maintenance of IT systems. Its teams work on business applications, enterprise software, data, cybersecurity and cloud migration. They serve sectors including banking, insurance, manufacturing, retail and telecommunications. Contracts may combine initial consulting, technical deployment and ongoing operations.

These services are complemented by offerings structured around proprietary brands. Infosys Cobalt brings together services, solutions and resources for cloud projects. Infosys Topaz encompasses artificial intelligence offerings, including generative AI. In banking, Finacle, provided by its subsidiary EdgeVerve Systems, delivers software solutions for banking operations and digital services. Infosys is therefore not solely a software vendor: its business relies heavily on supporting and executing complex projects.

What next?

For Infosys, artificial intelligence represents both a market and a transformation of its own working methods. Automating development, testing or support may change how services are delivered and billed. The challenge is to turn these potential gains into verifiable results for clients, without neglecting security, data privacy and application reliability.

Modernizing existing systems should also remain an important area, as large organizations need to make legacy software, cloud infrastructure and new AI applications work together. In a competitive market, Infosys’s ability to train its teams, navigate regulated environments and meet its operational commitments will be decisive. Official website: infosys.com.
